Guys, I'm majoring in Econ and business, sociolism and communism are VERY different.

Communism: All major industries and business is owned and operated by the government, and it is up to the government to spread the wealth evenly amongst the people.

Sociolism: All Major industries and business is owned by the people, but the government is charged with regulation and making sure the wealth is distributed equally.

There are even more differences, such as economic structure, governmental structure, etc... I JUST took a class on this. Wink

Ok.

Now I understand it.

Obama isn't bringing us towards socialism, he's bringing us towards Communism.

You see, what you just said tells me that Obama is a Communist. He owns the auto industries. He owns the banks. He wants to own healthcare in this country. He is trying to own all the major businesses, which is, by your measure, Communism.

Well sort of, except generally in communism the public has no say whatsoever in policy. Those businesses faield on their own anyway, the government can't make them any worse right? *knocks on wood*

The government can't fix them either. They failed on their own, correct. Which tends to mean if they are truly valuable businesses to America, then they will repair themselves on their own.

That's the free-market: if something fails, it fails because the people do not want it.

If the buggie-whip industry failed in the late 1800s/early 1900s, whenever cars started getting produced en masse, would a government bailout be the preferable solution to save the failing industry? I think not. The majority of people no longer want buggie-whips because the majority of people no longer drive in buggies. Simple, right?

True, except you are off on one very important detail, the reason they failed was not because they arn't needed, but because they got too greedy. They cut out important parts of operation and common sense to gain a larger profit. When you get a market environment where people start buying things they cannot afford with money they do not have, it's a recipe for failure. The free market system is actually not the best market model, some regulation and government action is required to maintain a healthy market. Remember the great depression? That was the result of a hands off approach to the market by the government. The fact is the market fails fairly regularly, with proper government regulation the failures can be controlled and often less drastic. But right now the market as a whole is so messed up, it's going to take some major action to fix it. The bottom line is, this system of greed is fundamentally flawed, and because of that, the market fluctates.

Wait, so you're saying if corporations never got greedy, buggy-whips would still be a popular thriving industry? silent

I know a little more than other people on these government philosophies and the best our government can do is part socialism and part mercantilism.

Yeah, capitolism is quite flawed itself, but it holds the greatest possibility then the alternatives, I just wish there was less greed involved.

Yes but I am talking more about these government philosophies and this is the history of these ideas I am reading this information out of an Ap Euro textbook so it's pretty accurate.

Ap?

I wouldn't trust a European book; I'd just read the Communist manifesto and notice just how similar what POTUS is doing with what Marx preached.

POTUS? I'm not familier with that. Nor this communist manifesto, but I am familier with Marx and his ideas. And trust me, what he envisioned, is nothing like what has ever actually happened.

Oh, lol I cannot believe I missed that. But seriously guys, HE IS NOT A COMMUNIST! Ignore all the republican osik that they keep spewing out. Obama is a lame duck at best, to be a true communist, a lot more would have to happen, from a much stronger man.

It's his czars that are the self-proclaimed communists, and Mao-worshippers.
