By 2070, I predict that we will be able to send a probe to go the the Alpha Centauri system, but it won't be for a couple centuries until we can confidently send human crews to other solar systems.

Pretty much, unless MAJOR advances in science and engineering are made in the space field. With current budgetary issues and public agendas I don't see that happening right now. Unless of course it is done by the private sector, which is not outside the realm of possibility.

It would be something to see the private sector beat the government space programs to interstellar flight... Shocked

I think it would be a MAJOR wake up call though, to not forget about NASA.

I think that would be funny! The problem is that private sector would wield a lot of power after that discovery and I would be extremely concerned about what they would do with that power.

That's true, the technology would be highly coveted and in the hands of a few it could be potentially dangerous.

Or the tech would have to be distributed amongst several trustworthy groups. Either way that's how it should be worked. But like in all tech fields, once something is discovered it usually doesn't take too long for someone else to do it too.

That's legitimate. But it's like the idea of using platinum to create renewable fuel from water. Who ever can get enough platinum to do that then they would be ridiculuosly wealthy and powerful. They would probably control the economy!

Exactly, and having situations like that are just bad ideas, really bad ideas. Too much power in the hands of too few who don't have the morals or conscience to control it is always a recipe for disaster.

Yeah not a lot, unless you have some sort of political power or the capability to produce the technology yourself.

Is that something we should really consider working on in that Black-7 unit thingy?

You mean SED? Currently we do not posses the resources or personnel to do anything with SED at the time being. It doesn't even have an active Black-7 Commander right now. So until we can activate that group, nothing can really be done with it.

I don't know of alien life but a way to look at it some creatures God creates could seem alien to us such as angels.

@ Malus: There IS, The Science and Engineering Division, it's just not active right now.
@ Crinkle: Very good point.

Technically it's still Jordan, since the unit isn't active.

Constitutional requirement. And we are way off topic, lets get back on topic and continue this conversation in the proper thread.
